Uniform Shirts!

SA uniform shirts will be available for pick-up on Sat., Dec. 1 outside rooms 223/224.

If you ordered a shirt at the orientation - please be sure to get it. If you need a new shirts but did NOT order it a orientation (for whatever reason including you sign-up for the program after the orientation), you can stop by and see if there are any extras in your size.

REMINDER - dress for the 12/2 Suzuki Academy Winter Festival Concert is as follows:

Brandywine Fiddlers = green fiddle shirts, black dress pants WITH BLACK socks or long (below the knee) skirts WITH BLACK tights, black shoes, and the fiddle hats with bandanas wrapped around. A white turtle neck under the green fiddle shirts is permitted if it is cold.

All other SA students = white SA uniform shirt, black dress pants WITH BLACK socks or long (below the knee skirt) WITH BLACK tights, and DARK dress shoes (NOT sneakers). A white turtle neck under the uniform shirt is permitted if it is cold. Hair should be pulled back off the face and no excessive jewelry.

Winterfest Directions/Parking Info!

From the Music school

Turn Left on Lea Blvd.
At the first light at N. Monroe turn Left
Go through 2 stop signs
Pass the track on the left
Take the 1st right after the track, but stay in the left lane
when you turn to get into the parking lot.

From 202 (Concord Pike)

Go South on 202 in the far left lane past the exit ramps for 95 North and South
There will be a lane that opens up on the far left just before an overpass
Stay in that far left lane up to the light for Miller Road
Turn Left onto Miller Road
At the 2nd light, turn left onto West 34th Street
After the stop sign, the school will be on the left
Follow the road around the school and use the
2nd entrance to the parking lot - stay in the left lane.

From the Parking Lot

There will probably be a sign that says "Event Entrance"
If not, the gym doors are the first set of doors on the left as you
face the rear of the building. To the right of the gym is a walkway.
Follow that walkway back to the entrance. When you enter the building,
the cafeteria (where the kids will store their instruments/cases) will be
on the right. There are doors into the auditorium almost right across from
the entrance to the building.

Special Performance 10/27!

That day a small chamber orchestra from Gettysburg College will be presenting a short concert at the school at 11:45am. If possible, please try to attend.

FYI Heifetz Group Members - group class will be moved to 12:30-1:30 that day to accommodate the concert. Those with a theory conflict should contact me and I will talk to Eric about adjusting the time of that class for the day.

The chamber music program this year will be similar in format to last year (with 10 total sessions). The coaches for the groups will be Alessandra Cuffaro, violin (a fabulous new violin faculty member at the school). See her website below! And, of course, our own, Eric Coyne.

Just a reminder - the 2012-13 Suzuki Academy Parent Orientation will be held on Sat., Sept. 8 from 12noon-2pm (until 4pm for brand new families).

Please let you students know now so they can get it on their schedules as it is required.

12-1 = orientation
1-2 = parent ed for returning parents (topics TBA but let me know if you have suggestions)
1-3 = philosophy overview class for new parents

FALL REGISTRATION

Dear Suzuki Academy Parents:
The 2012-2013 Information Guide and registration form will be mailed to you in the coming weeks. If you’d like to get a jump on Fall registration, the Registrar will be available on Saturday, June 2 to accept your registrations. We will have registration forms available for you to complete and submit with the $75 deposit.
For your information, the tuition rates for the Suzuki Academy for next school year are:
30-minute lesson + group class = $935 per semester
45-minute lesson + group class = $1,300 per semester
60-minute lesson + group class = $1,645 per semester

Day in Old New Castle Event--5/19

If you don't know Old New Castle, take 95 south from Wilmington and get off at Route 141 toward New Castle. At the intersection of 141 and 273, turn left (there is a large First Baptist Church on the right). Less than a mile, you turn right on Delaware Street (immediately after you go over some railroad tracks and a there's a Walgreens on the left). This is the main street to downtown.

At 5th Street, you can turn right and pull into the New Castle United Methodist Church parking lot -- we have this for volunteers.
At 3rd Street you are now in the main town square -- it will be obvious. You are performing on the front porch of the Old Court House (the large colonial building on the left). Park there and set up. If it is raining, you will perform inside the Old Court House. 

Tell the ticket counter you are with the Music School of Delaware performers and Julie will get you wristbands/brochures for admission for the rest of the festival.  This is free for us!

Parents--we need your help!

We are in need of volunteers to bring in dishes, drinks, and paper products for the faculty lunch on Suzuki Day, March 24. We'll need enough food for 15.

We had a wonderful turn out for the visiting clinicians and faculty last year. Anyone who can contribute a gluten free and a vegan dish would be appreciated.

All contributions can be left in the upstairs Faculty Lounge that morning. (Please make a note that specifies your dish/paper products for "Suzuki Day Faculty Lunch").

Youth String Camp Dates!

Please save the date for this string camp, run by Julie Murphy. This is a great camp to build reading and ensemble-playing skills for students in late Book 1 (Min 3) THRU Book 4. It is from 9am-4/5pm Monday thru Friday, with a final concert on Friday. There are also master classes and art classes throughout the week.

Suzuki Orchestras Schedule Change 1/14 & 1/21

For these 2 Saturdays, Concert Strings will meet from 1:30-2:15, and Festival Strings will meet from 2:00-2:45pm. This will allow us to rehearse the combined piece together, Hiawatha.

Day in Old New Castle

This event will be IN PLACE of Julie & Jessica's Groups on Saturday May 19 (musicianship classes will run according to schedule). The event will be in downtown Old New Castle (details of location tba) from approx. 1-2pm. For some more information on the general event, see http://dionc.immanuelepiscopal.com/.

This is a great opportunity for another fun performance for our students, combined with a fun local event with many other activities for families to enjoy.

Suzuki orchestras will meet in the morning that Saturday.
