NEW! Performance Class for SA Students - This class is designed to allow SA students the chance to practice the art of performing for an audience in a more informal setting and as preparation for solo recitals.  Students can sign up for each class date individually by contacting Jessica Hoffman at least a month in advance.  An accompanist will be present to work with the student in the class.  Some time will be allotted for comments from both teachers.  Class size is limited and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is no additional tuition for participation in this class however participation in this class may be used in place of a make-up lesson at the discretion of the private teacher.

Suzuki Academy Divisions for Advanced Students
Beginning 2013-2014, there will be two divisions for SA students who have reached the advanced level AND have passed a minimum of Graduation Level 6 Violin and Cello, Level 5 Viola, AND are at least 11 years old by the start of the academic year. Placement in Division 1 is by the student’s choice, placement in Division 2 is by the student’s choice AND their private teacher AND department head recommendation. Recommendations will be based on the student’s performance and participation history.
Division 1 - Suzuki Academy Advanced Seminar
This division is designed for SA students who have reached the advanced level and are interested in continuing their Suzuki studies primarily through the large ensemble and private lesson experience. Students in this division will be exempted from weekly group and musicianship classes. Instead they will attend one monthly “Seminar”. Seminars will be held on Saturday mornings (time TBA). Seminar topics will include various music history, theory, and performance topics. Students in this division will also continue with their weekly private study and are required to actively participate in one of the school’s orchestras. Students in this division are not required to participate in graduation, however may choose to do so. Students in this division will participate in the annual Harvest Concert (mostly performing harmonies for the Suzuki repertoire – memorization not required but encouraged). Students in this division are not required to participate in Suzuki Day, however may choose to do so. This is a flexible program designed for very active middle school and high school Suzuki students. Because this is an advanced program, students will study standard instrumental repertoire, in addition to the regular Suzuki repertoire.
Division 2 - Suzuki Academy Honors Program
This division is designed for SA students who have reached the advanced level and are interested in pursuing their musical studies in a serious and rigorous manner, quite possibly working towards acceptance as a college music major or minor. Students in this division will continue private lessons, incorporating standard repertoire and etudes in addition to Suzuki repertoire and often culminating in the preparation of appropriate repertoire for college auditions and/or a senior recital. Requirements for this program extend over the course of a minimum of 4 years (to be awarded the Honors Certificate). Upon completion of all requirements, students will receive the SA Honors Certificate – the SA’s highest award. Students must complete a minimum of graduation Level 10 for violin and cello and Level 8 for viola to receive the Honors Certificate.
The group class for this division, called the Suzuki Academy Camerata, will consist of all violin, viola, and cello students in the SA Honors Program and will perform a mixture of like instrument choir, chamber, and string orchestra repertoire. The SA Camerata will be directed by SBS with the assistance of various SA faculty. Students must actively participate in the SA Camerata for the entire duration of the participation in the honors program. As the SA’s top performing ensemble, this group will frequently perform outside of The Music School at various regional venues; including day trips, and occasional overnight trips locally and abroad (not more than once per academic year and trip fees are not included in the tuition).
A feature of the program will include monthly special masterclasses given by regionally and nationally renown guest artists.
The theory class for this division (60 min every other week), will culminate with college prep level theory.
SA Honors students must complete a minimum of 3 years (10 coachings per year) in a Music School chamber ensemble.
SA Honors students must complete a minimum of 2 years in a Music School orchestra.
SA Honors students will be required to perform regularly on solo recitals. Honors students may also be invited to perform at the annual SA Rising Stars Concert. There will also be a recital attendance requirement.
